Wow! Now there is a bright pop of color from the garden! If you live in the North and the Midwest you know that’s it’s already pretty cold at night. How on earth do I have red tomatoes? So I picked the last of my tomatoes a couple of weeks ago when it was still somewhat warm and before a freeze. I pulled every single one of them off no matter what shade of green it was. Most of them were green at that point.
As you can see they are still in the process of turning red. They won’t all be good but the majority of them will be fine. Especially if they were a decent size when picked.
HOW DO YOU TURN GREEN TOMATOES RED? 🍅
The answer is a brown paper bag! Well I had a lot of tomatoes so I broke up the lot between 6 different bags. Close the bags tight and just wait. 🕰
If you need them to turn faster simply enclose an apple. The gases from the bag and the apple cause to tomatoes to ripen.
Then I just cook them and freeze them to use in chili and tomato sauce. I’ve made several batches of chili and tomato sauce already so these are getting frozen after they are cooked. ( I’ll share my cooking methods in another post 😉)
I’d love to hear how you preserve tomatoes from your garden!
